The ideal canyon for beginners
Located in the Bious-Artigues valley at the foot of the Pic du Midi d’Ossau, this canyon offers a progressive approach to whitewater. Optional jumps, short slides, and translucent pools: everything is sized to reassure beginners while providing real thrills.
A half-day family adventure
The Bious canyon trip lasts about three hours, including supervision. The approach walk is short (15 minutes), the water stays at a reasonable level, and every obstacle has an easy alternative. It’s the perfect activity for sharing an outdoor experience as a family, without worrying about the younger ones.
Étienne adapts the pace and tone for children: fun explanations, photo breaks in the translucent pools, and balance games on the boulders. The focus is as much on discovering the environment—aquatic flora, Pyrenean granite geology, and signs of mountain wildlife—as it is on the physical activity.
In the heart of the Pyrenees National Park
The Bious flows through a protected area of the National Park. The descent is an opportunity to observe an untouched natural environment: crystal-clear water fed by the snows of the Midi d’Ossau, beech and fir forests, and potholes carved by millennia of glacial erosion. Étienne scrupulously respects the Park’s charter and limits group sizes to preserve these fragile sites.

Can my 9 and 11-year-old children participate together?
Yes, that is exactly the ideal group profile for the Bious. Étienne adapts the sections based on the youngest participant and offers more challenging variations to teenagers who want to push themselves.
What is the maximum number of jumps?
About ten jumps are possible, from small (1 m) to more daring (5 m). All are optional, and every jump has an alternative for walking down.
Is the water very cold?
The water stays around 12-14°C in the middle of summer, which is cool but pleasant with a neoprene wetsuit. Children never get hypothermic during a half-day session.
