Discovery Climbing
A day to learn the basics of rock climbing, or to progress at your own pace. At sites like Arudy in the Ossau Valley, Esquit in the Aspe Valley, or Arguibelle in Barétous, accessible to all and supervised in small groups.
Rock climbing, at your own pace
Discovery climbing takes place on single-pitch routes, equipped with anchors at the top. You climb top-roping or lead climbing depending on your level, descend safely, and start again on a new route. This is the best way to learn technical skills by doing multiple short ascents.
A Progressive Teaching Approach
Étienne begins each outing with a technical briefing at the foot of the cliff: equipment, tying in, belaying technique, signals. The first routes are done top-roping, secured by the instructor. Once comfortable, we move on to lead climbing on suitable routes. Progression happens without pressure, in a reassuring environment.
For climbers who are already independent, the outing becomes a refinement session: route reading, effort management, efficient movement, slab or overhang climbing. Étienne adapts his instruction to your actual level, observed during the first routes.
Sites for all tastes
Depending on the group, level, and weather, Étienne chooses the day’s climbing sector. Arudy remains the benchmark for beginning climbing in the Ossau Valley: solid limestone, routes of all levels nearby, 10-minute access from the parking lot. The cliffs of Esquit in the Aspe Valley or Arguibelle in the Barétous Valley offer varied atmospheres: technical slabs, crimpy routes, rougher rock.
